Industry insider Andy Mangels with guest hosted a panel of LGBT comics professionals and their experiences in the industry from the underground comics scene in San Francisco in the 70’s and 80’s to now!

Good news!
We are not dead! We are actually quite busy ramping up for next year’s show! In the mean time, for those of you who were not able to attend, or were simply too busy having fun attending our panels, we have started uploading videos of panels and events that took place at Wonder Northwest this year.

As some of you may know, Winston Churchill, Billy Galaxy’s beloved Italian Greyhound, broke his leg Friday night just before dealer set up. Because Billy put so much of his own time and money into making Wonder Northwest great for you guys, he is now struggling to pay for this unexpected and unfortunate expense.
Our little guy is doing okay, and is just as energetic as ever, if not a bit sad that he has to stay cooped up in his kennel. He’s not allowed to walk unless necessary, so he has to be carried wherever he goes.

The inaugural year of Wonder Northwest went off without a hitch. Thank you to all of those that attended and had a great time. The crowds just kept growing steadily over both days and all of the rooms, events, panels and activities were amazingly well attended. Some of them were even standing room only!
A super huge shoutout to Manny McIvor, Sean Harrington, DJ AlphaMullet and Holly Reynolds. Without these folks going above and beyond the call of duty, this show probably would not have happened. We also had a ton of help from so many volunteers, sponsors and all-around do-gooders that we are afraid to try and list them all out of fear of forgetting someone. You all know who you are and we love you. Keep rocking!
And of course, thank you to all of our attendees for giving us a reason to exist! Feel free to fire us an email with suggestions for what you would like to see for next year. We want to make this show great for everyone, and represent all corners of the Portland Nerd Herd equally.

Almost bad-ish news for those of you who have not registered for Wonder Northwest just yet… Advance online registration is now closed. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a badge. It’s a whirlwind of media exposure here at Wonder Northwest HQ! In the last week alone, we have been on The Rick Emerson Show, Dangerous Kids Podcast, and finished talking live on the air with Ham-Fisted radio about 45 minutes ago! Willamette Week did an incredibly informational write up on the lolita fashion show to help set folks straight on what exactly “Lolita Fashion” is. Turns out the general public isn’t as nerdy as we are! Woops!
Also, a quick heads-up for you all, advance registration will be closing tomorrow at 3:00pm PST! If you want to get your badge ahead of time, and get into the dealer’s hall early on both days, now is your last chance! So hop to it!

Rock Out!
There’s nothing better than getting together with your friends on a Saturday night and playing some Rock Band. And, that’s exactly what we plan on doing at Wonder Northwest! Everyone’s favorite barcade, Ground Kontrol will be putting on a very special Rock Band event just for us Saturday from 6-9pm hosted by their very own god of rock, MC Destructo! Grab your friends, pick your favorite song, and rock out with us!

Not even your Bat Event Repellent can keep this rockin’ list of events and panels from your weekend! Our panel room is chock full of amazing and informative content spanning subjects from Craig Thompson’s upcoming epic (in the literal sense of the word) graphic novel “Habibi” to the epidemiology of a Zombie outbreak! Our Vendor Hall is full of some of your favorites, like Dark Horse and Things from Another World, and some incredible smaller vendors with games, toys, and comics for you to peruse through. The gaming room is over flowing with Fluxx, Magic, Munchkin, and Legos! Our main events are revving their engines, ready to deliver awesome contests and content!
If you can’t tell, we’re super stoked and we can’t hardly wait for the show to start! See you in 16 days!

If you’ve been keeping an eye on our website, you’ve probably noticed that the “What to Do” section has been steadily growing! As of today, we have descriptions for 5 of our panels up online for you to read and start planning your day around! Also, thanks to local business and awesome nerd hang-out Guardian Games we have a gaming room packed with content for the entire weekend! Stop in and play some Magic, Fluxx, Settlers of Catan and more! An entire room filled with awesome games and activities just for you guys!
Speaking of awesome, Guardian Games is ALSO sponsoring the Best Kid’s Costume prize in our Costume Contest! It doesn’t get much better than that, folks!
In addition to all of this awesome content, we have started filling up our Artist Alley with some absolutely amazing local talent.

Due to the overwhelming requests for Artist Alley tables, we have managed to squeeze a bit of space into Wonder Northwest for them! The Artist Alley will be one giant booth with tons of talent packed in! We want to fit in as many talented folks as possible, so we are making half-tables available for one day each to creators.

Who’s up for a party?
A lot of conventions have “closing ceremonies” where people go on stage and talk about things no one really cares about. We think those are boring. So, instead Wonder Northwest is going to have a rad after party on Sunday night!
Critical Hit Burlesque and the Bossanova Ballroom will be hosting a very special repeat performance of their Geeklesque! show! Get ready for an evening of sultry superheroines, villainous vixens, and fantastic flirts! It’s burlesque and geekery at its finest! Geeklesque! Special Edition will feature deleted scenes not found in the original Geeklesque!, as well as raffle and trivia, with prizes provided by sponsors Floating World Comics, Guardian Games, and PDXYAR. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Discounts will be offered at the door ONLY for Wonder Northwest attendees and those in costume (Wonder Northwest and costume discounts not given with advanced tickets).
Due to the more mature nature and location of the event, it will be 21 and over, but youngsters (and kids at heart) will be able to rock out at Cosplay Karaoke until 9pm.
